Canada's dog capital: This is where four-legged friends can count themselves happiest

Almost ten million dogs live in Canada. On the occasion of World Dog Day, we found out for you which major cities four-legged friends can consider themselves particularly lucky. To do this, we compared nine influencing factors such as the availability of veterinarians and pet-friendly restaurants, the amount of the dog tax or the number of dogs per resident in the 20 largest German citiesGLIand awarded a score depending on the characteristics.

The dogs live particularly well in Dresden: the Saxon capital secures first place in the city comparison , dogs can let off steam on a variety of public dog parks and owners don't have to spend long searching for veterinarians and specialist shops. Leipzig, Düsseldorf and Hamburg are also at the top and offer their four-legged friends a lot so that they can live well.

Things in Cologne, on the other hand, are rather poor: the cathedral city is at the bottom of the ranking, and there are only a few dog-friendly hotels and restaurants for four-legged friends. The situation is similar in Stuttgart, Bielefeld and Bremen, which means that the cities can be found in the bottom table of the comparison. The four-legged friends are particularly expensive in the Ruhr area: dog owners in Bochum, for example, have to shell out almost 80 C$a year to keep them. However, it is cheaper in the far north, where Hamburg residents are charged a tax of 70 C$for owning a dog.
