Banijay takes over Tipico: What changes for players?

As early as November 2025 it became public that the well-known sports betting provider Tipico would be taken over by the Banijay Group. This week it was announced that the takeover has now taken place. At the same time there will also be personnel changes.

As of May 1, 2026, Mate Bacic will become the company's new Chief Executive Officer. Bacic has been working for the Tipico Group for several years and has already headed various departments there.

Many Tipico customers are wondering how the takeover will affect the sports betting site and whether there will even be negative changes. This cannot currently be assumed. Quite the opposite: the offering should be expanded and supplemented with innovations.

Because Banijay Gaming brings together different brands under one roof. In addition to Tipico, the company also recently bought the Austrian provider Admiral. As a result of the acquisitions, Banijay is now the fourth largest European sports betting and gaming operator.

Larger providers often have significantly more options. You can develop cutting-edge apps, implement new features and further improve your service. If you are currently a Tipico customer, there is no need to worry.

Champions League semi-final: Everything is still open after the first leg

This week the Champions League lived up to its name as the premier class. The first legs of the semi-finals took place on Tuesday and Wednesday – and they were really tough.

On Tuesday, FC Bayern Munich played against the defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. Found in the Parc des Princes a real spectacle takes place, which even the biggest football fans haven't seen for a long time.

After a slow start for both teams, Bayern received a penalty in the 17th minute, which Harry Kane (32) converted with his usual confidence. However, the game then turned around and goals from Kwarazchelia (25) and Neves (21) gave PSG the lead. Before the break, Michael Olise (24) equalized to make it 2-2.

In the 5th minute of injury time the referee returned to the point. This time PSG received a penalty after a criminal handball by Bayern defender Alphonso Davies (25). Ousmane Dembélé (28) converted even though keeper Manuel Neuer (40) had the right corner and was on it.

After halftime things got even crazier. PSG grew stronger and took a 5-2 lead with further goals from Dembélé and Kwarazchelia. Other teams would have given up at this point - but Bayern got back up. Dayot Upamecano (27) scored the next goal in the 65th minute. Just three minutes later, Luis Díaz (29) reduced the score to 5:4.

The game went back and forth in the last 20 minutes. However, no further goals were scored. What does the result mean for Bayern? They have to catch up by a goal in the second leg (May 6th, 9 p.m.). That seems like a doable task in front of the home crowd.

The second semi-final between Arsenal FC and Atlético Madrid took place on Wednesday. The game was much less eventful and ended 1:1. Both goals were scored from a penalty.

Many fans had already suspected that there would be fewer goals scored in this game and that it would not be a football spectacle.

The second leg should promise at least as much excitement due to the close results. They could therefore also offer good opportunities for sports betting. Trouble between Nick WolteMade and Newcastle United

It's a story with many ups and downs - and it could soon come to a quick end. Nick WolteMade (24), DFB striker and absolute popular figure, moved from VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle United last summer for around 75 million euros. He got off to a successful start: he scored the winning goal in his first game.

However, after a few good games the mood changed. WolteMade got less and less playing time and rarely hit the goal. For a long time there was little to read about him in the German press. Now, however, there seems to have been a final break between WolteMade and Newcastle.

Attentive fans noticed in the middle of the week that WolteMade had deleted his club from his Instagram biography. For many, this is a sign that there is a real crisis behind the scenes. The media has been speculating for several months that WolteMade will leave the Magpies in the summer.

Aston Villa are said to be interested in the 1.98 m tall striker. The fact that WolteMade only gets little playing time around a month and a half before the World Cup is likely to be annoying from the perspective of German fans.

Austria: Entertainment hall is being sued – because it is too close to a school

We received a case from Austria that really puzzled us. The Fun Zone arcade opened in the city of Hallein, south of Salzburg, at the beginning of April. But the term arcade can be misleading in this context.

Because there is no luckSpielautomaten in the fun zone. Visitors can play on basketball hoops, fish cuddly toys from gripper machines or drive racing simulations. These are specifically games that are based on skill and not luck. You could describe the Fun Zone more as an entertainment hall. There are no luckySpielautomaten in the so-called arcade.

Nevertheless, it was the operator now displaysigt, as there are two schools in the immediate vicinity of the Fun Zone. These are 300 and 400 meters away, so that the students only need to walk a few minutes to the arcade.

In Austria there is a legal minimum distance of 500 meters from schools and youth centers - but this only applies to arcades in the true sense. The question now is whether the Fun Zone even falls under this law, since no gambling is offered there. The district administration is now responsible for this.

The mayor of Hallein is sure that the hall has to be closed. He doesn't consider gaming parlors in the immediate vicinity of schools and residential buildings to be suitable. A psychologist confirmsigt in an interview with Salzburg24 that children are very susceptible to stimuli. The games offered could stimulate the reward system, which could be potentially dangerous.

This case raises the question of how far the legal restrictions should go. The legal minimum distance from gambling establishments to schools and youth centers, which also applies in Canada, is of course correct. But to what extent should simple entertainment offerings be restricted in the future? We are curious to see how the authorities in Austria will decide in this case.
