US gambling lobby satisfied
The leading US gambling association AGA (American Gaming Association) has that Partnership between MGM and NHL recently advocated. According to a Nielsen Sports study commissioned by the gambling lobby, the arrangement could be worth around $216 million (~NZ$ 100 million) annually for MGM. AGA Vice President, Sara Slane, stated:
"Sports betting agreements improve the fan and consumer experience. The NHL commitment strengthens the bond between sports companies and gaming companies, all of which are committed to maintaining the integrity of the game. With the legalization of sports betting, gaming companies will be encouraged to have fruitful relationships between themselves and the major sports leaguesigt."
MGM also partners with the NBA
On this point, MGM recently took the gambling association at its word. At the end of last July, group management had already signed a three-year, USD 25 million contract Contract with the most popular basketball league in the world, NBA - marking the first major casino deal since the lifting of the federal betting ban between a US gaming company and one of the four major US sports leagues (NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL). MGM was granted consequently marketing rights to all NBA league highlights, names and logos, as well as direct data feed access.
It is neither a secret nor surprising that competition is raging in the US market as a result of the repeal of PASPA - it is estimated that this is a billion-dollar market. European providers are also increasingly looking overseas, such as the traditional London bookmaker William Hill: In addition to its arrangements with 11 casinos in Mississippi, Hill has already made sports betting agreements with the ice hockey clubs Vegas Golden Knights and New Jersey Devils. What happens next on the other side of the 'big pond' remains to be seen.
