Extensive construction work
Formula 1 will make its debut in Las Vegas from November 16th to 18th. However, according to US media reports, there is still a lot of work to be done before the cars can compete for victory in the casino metropolis. With the start of construction on the track, a fundamental part of the upcoming Formula 1 premiere has now been tackled.
According to media reports, the groundbreaking ceremony for the racetrack took place on Sands Avenue. This lies between the Strip and the future MSG Sphere. The first stage should be completed on Friday, April 7th, before the construction site moves to the Strip. Paving work will take place here between April 9th and 19th. Between May 22nd and 26th, track construction will move to Harmon Avenue. From June 11th to 16th we will continue to Koval Lane. If everything goes according to plan up to this point, the majority of the route should already be completed by this point. The paddock will be asphalted from June 19th to 30th, while the construction of the MSG Sphere Zone is planned from August 21st to 25th.
According to local media, drivers in Las Vegas will have to prepare for numerous lane closures that are unavoidable as part of the route construction. However, it is not yet clear to what extent public transport in the casino metropolis will be affectedigt.
Question of economic viability
The debut of Formula 1 in Las Vegas is eagerly awaited by drivers, fans and those responsible. However, the mega event is considered particularly expensive. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority amount to 1.9 billion US dollars.
According to official information, public money would also flow into the sum. However, exactly how high the share will be is still unclear. Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom recently told KSNV-TV/Las Vegas that while the entire project will be costly, it will greatly benefit the local economy.
"It will be in the millions of dollars. But at the end of the day, the amount we get back will far exceed that. When you consider the tourism benefits of global advertising, the cost is relatively manageable. We will literally pay ourselves the day the race is over." - Tick Segerblom, Clark County Commissioner, Reporting from KSNV-TV/Las Vegas
Whether Las Vegas can stick to the schedule for the route plan and whether the debut of Formula 1 in the casino metropolis actually brings the desired economic profit will only be shown after the race weekend in November.
