Compromises instead of fundamental decisions

Dr. Andreas Blaue told the trade magazine in an interview that he thinks so the ongoing discussions surrounding a ban on advertising for sports betting are not effective.

In his opinion, a core problem is the fact that the various parties are always arguing over the fundamental decision as to whether sports betting advertising should be generally permitted or not?

Dr. Considers it difficult. Blau also admits that the statements made by individual people picked up by the media do not amount to a discussion, but rather represent individual expressions of opinion:

Basically, the discussion about gambling advertising is not a discussion at all because it is only being carried out by a few people. These people are trying to position themselves loudly politically in public with their call for advertising bans, which is gratefully accepted by some media professionals. – Dr. Andreas Blaue, CEO of the lead link media agency, source: games & business

Dr. Blaue does not seem convinced of a general ban on advertising for sports betting providers. However, he also makes it clear that the form of gambling advertising determines how well the objectives of the State Treaty on Gambling can be met.

Is the discussion about a ban on advertising for sports betting deadlocked?

The State Treaty on Gambling allows the advertising of sports betting under certain conditions. Both the wording of the advertising messages and the regulations for the distribution of advertising are clearly regulated.

Despite the legally undisputed situation, there are isolated calls for a complete ban on sports betting, which, according to surveys, also have the support of society.

The opposing side, including the German Sports Betting Association (DSWV), argues for the harmlessness of sports betting advertising with reference to empirical statistics.

Neither side currently appears willing to compromise.

It remains to be seen whether Dr. Andreas Blaue could create a basis on which the opponents in the discussion could agree on a compromise on sports betting advertising.
