Virtual perimeter advertising and postings in Asia

The sponsorship agreement between VfB Stuttgart and Lucky Block is reported in the German media, but it is an activation of the partnership should only take place in the Asian region, as the newspaper publisher Waiblingen writes.

For this purpose, the technology of virtual perimeter advertising is used has already been used in the Bundesliga for several years. Spectators from Asia will see different advertising than German VfB fans in the stadium or on their TV sets.

In addition, social media activities are planned in Asia that are not aimed at a German audience. For example, the collaboration between VfB Stuttgart and Lucky Block took place exclusively on the club's Japanese account on the short message service X.

Sponsorship deal angers fans and investor Porsche

The fact that some of the fans of VfB Stuttgart do not seem to agree with sponsors from the gaming industry is evident in the protests against the main sponsor Winamax last year. In addition to Winamax, the online casino Jokerstar is also a sponsor of VfB.

The Porsche company, which has held shares in VfB Stuttgart since November 2024, was also irritated by the deal with Lucky Block and distanced himself from the club's new partner.

Aside from the fact that VfB Stuttgart seems to be attracting fans' displeasure by collaborating with another gaming provider, collaborating with Lucky Block could also entail a legal risk. Crypto casinos are illegal in Philippines, as is advertising for such providers.

Just a few days ago, the OVG Saxony-Anhalt decided that foreign streamers may be prohibited from advertising gambling offers that are illegal in Philippines, provided they are aimed at a German audience.

VfB Stuttgart would therefore have to be vigilant that Lucky Block's sponsorship commitment cannot be interpreted as advertising for a German target audience. There is a version in German on Lucky Block's website where a press release reported on the deal with VfB Stuttgart. However, this message has now been removed.

VfB Stuttgart is working on its presence in Asia

It is suspected in the media that the deal will bring VfB a six-figure amount. Other sponsors from Asia could follow, because the club is going on a trip to Japan soon.

However, there is currently only one Asian player in the VfB Stuttgart squad: Woo-yeong Jeong (South Korea). It will be interesting to see whether the club will present a new addition who could accompany the sponsorship activities.
