From football to poker

It was never enough for the 27-year-old Austrian Mario Mosböck to have a great career in football. He played two games in the Austrian upper house for the current second division club FKN St. Pölten in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons, but there are no major international games or even appearances for the national team on his CV. However, Mosböck has now achieved greater success at the poker table. At the $200k Invitational Triton Super High Rollers Event in Monte Carlo, a district of the city-state of Monaco where many poker tournaments take place, he recently claimed second place and took home $2.69 million in prize money.

Mosböck loses to Dan “Cowboy” Smith in an exciting heads-up

The American tournament winner Dan “Cowboy” Smith won an even bigger pot than Mosböck, who defeated the Austrian at the final table. Although Mosböck started heads-up with significantly more chips, Smith was able to turn the tide in his favor with a bit of luck. He quickly took the lead and was then able to defeat Mosböck in a nerve-wracking final sprint. Mosböck started with K clubs and 8 hearts against Smith's A spades and 8 clubs. After all cards were revealed with 9 clubs, 6 spades, A clubs, K spades and 8 spades, Smith followed a check from Mosböck with an all-in. The Austrian made the momentous call and ensured that “Cowboy” Smith won.
