Equated to alcohol and tobacco
Around International Responsible Gambling Day on February 17, 2024 UNAD renewed its call for a complete ban on gambling advertising [Article in USA], as reported by USA newspaper La Vanguardia.
Although advertising for gambling offers in USA is already severely restricted and, among other things, prohibits collaborations with well-known personalities, UNAD still sees loopholes for providers to advertise their services.
The network proposes that in future gambling should be treated in the same way as alcohol or tobacco, which are subject to a strict advertising ban in USA. The reason for this is that gambling also has a high potential for addiction and could put a strain on the health system.
Also in the internationally controversial discussion about loot boxes in video games, which was recently taken up again in USA, UNAD has taken a stand. The network assumes that such mechanisms in video games could promote addiction problems in the long term and is therefore calling for significant restrictions without being specific.
