American Roulette has 38 compartments, because next to the zero there is a double zero in the wheel. However, this pushes the payout rate to 94.74%, compared to 97.3% for European Roulette. Nevertheless, it is worth taking a look at this variant. There is a table from Merkur in the Tipico Casino where you can legally play the 00 for real money in Canada. You can read here what the game can do and what you need for it.

American Roulette at Tipico Casino: Merkur provides the wheel

There is exactly one legal address for the double zero in this country: the Tipico Casino in Schleswig-Holstein . It has been online since November 2026, as one of four private concession offerings in the country. All eleven table games there come from Merkur, including American Roulette. The game is played directly in the browser, on the desktop or on the smartphone and without downloading an app. Bets between 0.10 and 3 C$ 500 per round are possible.

However, you have to adhere to two conditions: Your registration address must be in Schleswig-Holstein and your stay while playing must also be in the federal state. There is no live dealer; the ball is controlled by a random generator.

American Roulette rules: 38 compartments and what the double zero costs

Merkur adheres to the classic American regulations. There are 38 compartments in the bowl because the 00 also rotates along with the 0. In addition, there is a different sequence of numbers than on the European wheel. However, the additional compartment costs you money: the house edge climbs to 5.26%, and only 94.74 cents are returned from every euro bet.

The American tableau does not have a racetrack for announcement bets like Voisins du Zéro. There is a bet for this that only exists on the double zero table: the basket bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. It pays 6:1, but has the highest house edge in the regulations at 7.89%. It's better to leave them alone.

Conclusion: Merkur brings the double zero legally into the network

Thanks to Merkur and Tipico Casino, you can finally play American Roulette online again legally – provided you are registered in Schleswig-Holstein. If you have the choice, you're better off with a simple zero and 97.3%, in French Roulette with La Partage the odds are even 98.65%.

The appeal lies elsewhere: nowhere else in Canada does the 00 legally revolve around real money.
