Win from $18,000 to over $1 million
According to various sources, there are between 150,000 and 200,000 slot machines in Las Vegas that encourage people to play with colorful lights, sounds and, of course, the hope of big winnings.
1,400 of these slot machines are located at Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas' main airport. We would have been there within a week three people hit the jackpot [Article on English], as reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The airport has now officially confirmed the triple win on TwitterIGT:
Money, money, money—MONEY! In less than a week, three lucky visitors hit it big! With over 1,000 slots in our terminals, LAS gives travelers one last shot at winning before they head home! $1 MILLION+ Win (1/12) $88K Win (1/18) $18K Win (1/18) pic.twitter.com/0RkjtHDIx3

Accordingly, the first winner was able to look forward to more than 1 million US dollars (approx. 917,000 euros). Six days later the jackpot was won for $88,000 and later that day again for $18,000.
How do jackpots work at slot machines?
There are three different versions of slot machines:
- Fixed profit devices
- Devices with their own progressive jackpot
- Devices with a comprehensive progressive jackpot
Fixed win machines pay out a maximum win when a certain combination occurs on the reels. On devices with a progressive jackpot, however, a portion of the bets are retained and paid into a growing jackpot, which can be higher or lower depending on the time of the last win.
A special feature is slot machines with a comprehensive progressive jackpot. Several slot machines at different locations are networked together and pay into the same jackpot. One of the best known for this is the Megabucks slot, which regularly pays out ten times the million in winnings because thousands of slots across the country belong to the network.
There are also slots on the Internet with progressive jackpots, which can grow across multiple providers. One of the most popular slots with this principle is Mega Moolah, which has already paid out many millions in winnings. However, this is completely banned in Canada and participation in the game is only permitted in a few states in the USA.
While players have to hope for their luck at the airport in Las Vegas, the slot machine business is a safe business with a meaningful benefit for the airport operator.
The annual income of around 34 million US dollars is firmly budgeted for the maintenance of Harry Reid International Airport.
