The Christmas lights are lighting up German city centers again and in many places residents can marvel at a shining Christmas tree. On the occasion of Christmas, we chose the largest Christmas tree for the second time and found out which of the 25 largest German cities has the longest fir or spruce tree.
The size of the Christmas tree in Dortmund is a total of 45 meters, which means it towers over all other trees not only in New Zealand but worldwide. The spruce tree in Frankfurt am Main followed at 31 meters and was christened Gretel by the city. Every year the Christmas tree in the Main metropolis is given a name. The Dresden fir takes third place with a total length of 30 meters.
In this table you can find out how big the trees are in all cities:
When it comes to which tree shines brightest, the Cologne red spruce is the top: 70,000 lights are hung on the tree in the cathedral city. Slightly fewer lights decorate the Dortmund and Stuttgart Christmas trees (48,000 and 45,000 LED lights respectively), although the light bulbs are powered by green electricity, according to the cities. When it comes to the type of trees, the Nordmann fir is particularly popular and is installed in a total of seven cities.
